About Vertex

Built on evidence, not ego.

We started Vertex Capital because we were tired of watching conviction get mistaken for a strategy. Eighteen years later, the mission hasn’t changed.

Our Story

Eighteen years of saying no to noise.

Vertex Capital was founded in 2008 by a small group of quantitative researchers who believed most active management was overpriced storytelling dressed up as insight. We had all worked at larger institutions where research existed to justify decisions already made in a hallway conversation, and we were tired of watching sound risk management get overruled by a manager’s gut feeling in the final hour. So in the middle of a financial crisis, we set out to build something different: portfolios driven by evidence, risk models built before conviction, and a client relationship measured in decades rather than quarterly calls.

Today we manage $2.4B across four core strategies for over 40 institutional and private clients. Growth was never the goal in itself; it was a byproduct of doing the same disciplined work for the eighteenth year that we did in the first. The founding question is still the one we ask before every allocation: what does the evidence actually say, and are we sizing this position honestly given what we don’t know?

Our Values

What we won’t compromise on.

Rigor

No shortcuts on due diligence

Every position clears the same research bar, regardless of how compelling the pitch sounds or who’s presenting it. We’ve killed positions everyone in the room liked, simply because the numbers didn’t clear the bar we set before we ever heard the pitch.

Humility

We size for being wrong

Position sizing assumes any single thesis can fail, because eventually one will. No position is large enough that being wrong about it threatens the whole mandate.

Patience

Decades, not quarters

We report quarterly because clients need it for their own planning — not because our strategies are designed around quarterly outcomes. Internally, we think in multi-year windows.

The Team

Four people. One standard.
